Supermarket (Jun 2009)

A Lady drives to the supermarket to do some shopping
- Lady put £1 in trolley and shops
- Lady returns to car, puts shopping handbag and purse in car
- Lady returns trolley to trolley park leaving car unlocked and retrieves £1 coin from trolley
- Lady returns to car
- Lady uses £1 coin to ring husband to explain how her shopping, bag and purse have been stolen
- Lady feels a RIGHT DIPSTICK.

One Month Later

- Lady reads bank and credit card statements to find she now owns hundreds of pounds of luxury goods she didn’t order and didn’t receive
- Lady realises she did not cancel her stolen bank and credit cards
- Lady feels a RIGHT DIPSTICK for the second time

Six Weeks Later

- Lady receives a letter from her insurance company telling her they are not going to pay out as the theft was her own fault.

RIGHT DIPSTICK doesn’t go anywhere near how she feels now.

For lady, bag, purse & husband you can substitute
Man, jacket, wallet & wife.

School Pickup (Dec 2008)

A lady went to pick her children up from school leaving her car locked in a residential area. Unfortunately she left her purse on show in a clear shopping bag on the front seat. Guess what – someone smashed the car window with a brick and took her purse.
NEvEr, neVeR, nevER, NEveR, NEVER leave valuables on show in your car.

Fuel £4000 per Gallon (Sept 2008)

You pull into the petrol station, put 5 gallons (~23 litres) of fuel in your £20.000 pride and joy and go into the mini-supermarket to pay. You brouse the chocolate shelf and ruin your diet with abar of milk chocolate; pay for the fuel and your indulgent treat, come out and realise your car has disappeared. OK.....
So you always leave your keys in your car and nothing has happened before; this time you were unlucky (or just stupid). Your insurance company are very likely to say it's your own fault for leaving the keys in the car and refuse to pay out on your policy; so your 5 gallons of fuel have just cost you £20,000. Even if you take the keys out, you must look your doors; thieves can be into your car, search it and be away with your possessions before you realise what is happening.

The old saying, "lock it or Loose it" still makes sense - Heed It.

Got a SatNav? (Aug 2008)

Don't advertise it. Don't just take the unit out when you park up, remove the holder as well, it's a tell tale sign that there is something in the car worth stealing. It also pays to give the inside of your screen a wipe to remove the round marks the suction cup leaves. Even if you take the SatNav unit with you, you could still end up with broken side window as the thieves will assume it is still in the car.
